The thing about my black Macbook..

..is that I got it exactly 2 years ago — and it still looks the same.

And even at just 2.0 ghz and with 2.5 gb of RAM, the thing is still as efficient as when I first got it.  I owe it to the black Macbook Profolio I bought from some dude on Philmug for just P500. Though the battery dies on me every now and then (916 cycles and counting), I’ve never lost any files or botched up any of my work projects.

Needless to say, I’ll never buy a PC (for work) again.

A RUNNER’S COMPANION: The Sennheiser PMX 80 Sport II Review

Headphones for runners

One thing I considered writing about when I started this blog, was to try and and talk about the common dilemmas that Pinoys encounter when trying to get into shape. While purists are quick to say that it’s not about the equipment and all about the performance – I love my sports gadgets is all I have to say about that.

If you’ve tried to keep a regular running schedule going, the following assumptions probably fit your persona.

  • You probably own an mp3 player.
  • It’s probably an ipod.
  • You’re tired of getting derailed from your workout because your ipod earphones keep falling out.

I’m not a hardcore runner, but the Sennheiser PMX 80 Sport II i got as a surprise from my fiance’ just yesterday was clearly made for them. Here’s my stab at coming up with a brief, non-technical review for these beauties.

Deskstandz: Is it worth the price for more space?

I was browsing one of the tech sites I usually go to when an ad for this accessory piqued my curiosity. Imagine, for only $39.95, you get to display/place your laptop in an upright position! The Deskstanz is definitely one of a kind.

Need more desk space? Now you can stand your Apple notebook vertically to free up valuable desk space when working with an external monitor. This effectively turns your Apple notebook into a sleek space saving desktop setup.

It’s just amazing what you can do with an idea, the right resources, and some marketing buck. I know it looks like it was built using good materials but c’mon, $40?! Even if I love my Macbook to bits, there’s just no friggin’ way.

If you’ve bought one of these things, I salute you.

Handheld Gaming Charging Stations at Burger King

charging-station.gifWhen they say “LO BAT, NO BAT, ANY KIND OF BAT.”, the people at Burger King really mean it.

I was having lunch at the Galleria today with some former office mates when I noticed something different about their charging station. Not only are these things able to charge mobile phones of different makes and models, the fastfood chain has started providing charging stations to handheld gamers as well!

If you’re the type of person who never leaves home without your PSP or DS, now you know where to go when the batteries start going bye bye. :)

How reliable are Smart’s International Services?

smart-international-service.jpg

I’m probably one of those people who text more than they call. Thanks to Yahoo Messenger, the expenses are somehow lessened. However, there are a lot of times when I’d use my Smart line to text instead (After all, I can’t pull out my computer and get an Internet connection anytime I want to).

The messages are always received by the girlfriend on time. What puzzles me are the late arrivals of most (if not, all), of her text messages. We’re not talking about a few hours here — some of the text messages I receive arrive after a day! Imagine what would happen if I had to make a bank account deposit, and the message arrives on a Saturday. Geez.

Mariel uses a Cingular Wireless prepaid line in New York, so I don’t know and I’m not sure if the problem is coming from her end. Before I got my Smart line, I was using a Globe prepaid sim. Back then, I did not encounter any problems.

Does anyone have any answers? Calling the Technographist! Help me spread the word! :)

(I’ll be writing an email to Smart right after this. Here’s hoping they answer)

Updated Yahoo Messenger for Mac

Yahoo Messenger for MacWhen I get home from work, the first thing I usually do is log on to my PC (Yeah, you read that right). I do this because I use Yahoo Messenger to send text messages to the girlfriend. Imagine my surprise when I turned on my Macbook today — a new update for Yahoo Messenger!

Voice, Check.

SMS — Check!

I don’t care what else they added. All that matters to me are the two new features above.

Hmmm… does this mean I won’t be using my desktop PC anymore? Don’t get me wrong, I still love my PC (and my games). Yahoo just made my life a lot simpler :)

Free Wi-fi Hotspots in the Philippines

Someone forwarded this to me, so I don’t know if it’s entirely accurate (I hope it is). For a long list of the completely free wi-fi hotspots er.. everywhere, proceed to the next page. There’s a thread with a growing list somewhere in TipidPC.com. Enjoy!

Macbook Air a Hoax!

Only Steve Jobs could have sent ripples down every technophile’s spine like he did more than a week ago. As this blogger has learned, everything is just to good to be true!

When Quad Core Processing just isn’t enough.

apple-8-core.jpg

As if it isn’t enough that we’re less than a week away from Macworld, Apple unleashes this beast upon us. You sometimes have to wonder, how do these people come up with this stuff?

I just can’t wait for January 15th!

The Beginning of the End for HD-DVD

If you’re one of the many who bought an LCD or Plasma television during the holidays, then you’ve probably heard about Warner’s recent decision to use the Blu-Ray format exclusively. It has been a silent battle, but from the looks of things, the HD-DVD format will die even before it hits mainstream.

While I still belong to the can’t-afford-but-aspiring-for-an-LCD-TV category, one can’t help but wonder how is this information relevant for us Filipinos? Take a trip to PinoyDVD, and posts like this are what you’ll find.
