Another Men’s Health Magazine Belly Off Club post

To offset the waste of bandwith I caused with my last post, I decided to share a scan of the following page in the May issue of Men’s Health US.

The Belly Off Club page of Men’s Health US’ Malegrams section is probably one of the most inspiring pages in the magazine. Just by looking at the vital statistics on this guy and the before and after pictures, I just realized that if you really want it bad and are willing to make the necessary sacrifices, you can start feeling good about yourself.

Where can you find Rollerblades in the Philippines?

As if I didn’t learn my lesson the last time, I bought yet another item online. This pretty little thing is my new sport, hobby, or whatever else you want to call it. All I know is I hope to someday (this year maybe?) be able to jump off a flight of stairs with it.

Finding these Kit Alphas wasn’t easy at all.

I scoured through all the major sports houses in Metro Manila (even at that Persian dude’s sporting goods store in Greenhills), but couldn’t find the brand I was looking for. The high end bikeshops in Cartimar? They didn’t have any. They told me they used to sell it about 5 or 6 years ago. Even R.O.X. didn’t sell any.

I was just fortunate enough to find this sparingly used pair online. The guy who sold it to me bought it in Singapore, and was selling it because his wife coerced him into getting one even though he wasn’t into it at all.

If you see some 6 foot tall dude trying to keep his balance in UP or The Fort, then it’ll probably me. But seriously, where can anyone find a decent pair of Rollerblades in the Philippines?

You ken do eet. Diet advice from a former binge eater.

I have a confession to make — I ate a piece of bacon yesterday.

Though the act isn’t considered a sin, to a vegetarian or a PETA member, it can qualify as such. Gladly, I’m neither of those two. I am however, someone who decided exactly a year ago to take my lifestyle change to another level.

The logic behind it?

I wanted to flush out as much of the above from my body as humanly possible.

Go get that damn monitor

Ah yes, another year of resolutions. I’ll quit smoking, eat healthier, and stop drinking. I’ve heard all of this before. Sadly (more often than not), after forcing yourself to start the year right, there comes a point when your willpower starts to break down at the scent of nicotine, the sight of sisig, or a newly opened ice cold bottle of San Miguel Beer. Before you know it, all those promises are broken faster than it took to make them. If you haven’t made any resolutions this 2009, I can give you one that won’t entail having to give up all the “good stuff” I enumerated above.

Increased productivity.

This brings me to a post that Ely made a few months ago when we were transferred to another part of the office. I know not everyone can ask to be transferred to a quieter area in the workplace, but I also speak of productivity in the confines of your own home.

Early last December, I acquired a 22″ Samsung monitor from an officemate who was getting rid of most of his stuff. I know people will be quick to label this as a simple form of justification (since I also plan on using it for my PS3), but I really sincerely believe that the size of one’s computer monitor is directly proportional to the amount of output he or she can churn out.

If you still have some spare cash and don’t have anything to spend it on, please… go out and buy a kickass monitor. You’ll understand what I mean when you can freely have Photoshop, Yahoo Messenger, plus a Firefox and a Safari browser window open, all at the same time.

A little perspective

If you’re one of the few who keep on returning to this blog for updates and can’t find any it’s because I’ve been trying to put together another blog for the past two months (to my friends who I’ve flaked on in the past few, now you know what I was doing). When I started Justanothergame, I had planned on making this an online resource for everything I learned in the print industry.

After having spent almost two years in the field of Internet marketing, I realized one thing — even if print and online are two entirely different worlds, there’s not much difference between the two. I guess you could say that little button on the right leading to my other blog will be an ongoing project to see if print and online can coexist. While I will still continue to blog on Justanothergame, this blog will focus more on my learnings as an Internet marketer.

I’m not good at online launches, but please pay a visit Printrospective. Here’s an open call for some link love!

When things come full circle

I rarely get emotional with my posts, but I guess at some point in your life, you just end up realizing you’ve come a long way. As I write this, I am seated in a corner of the Las Vegas Mc Carran International Airport.

It just so happens that 6 years ago, I was right in this very airport with two of my closest friends. All of us had just turned 21, and had always wondered how livin’ it up in Vegas was like. Strip clubs. Gambling. We were, after all, legally able to do what we wanted to do. More than that, we were in a city where every single person who comes here has no other intention but to let go.

Without going into details — and let’s just say there was something I did here that wasn’t legal (you can ask me about it in person), taking that trip here in 2002 changed my life.

Six years after, and here I am. Back in the very place that allowed me to show what I was made of.

*Sigh*

Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? That doesn’t apply to me. I brought everything with me back home.

*Free wi-fi. All airports should be like this.

The Miracle that is Men’s Health Philippines

This day last week, me and a few friends participated in the Men’s Health Miracle Run (my influence obviously). You see, if there’s one other lesson I’ve learned from my stint as publisher of Men’s Health, it’s that you can never be too paranoid when it comes to your health.

To a lot of people, it may seem boring blah blah blah… or the whole health is wealth thing is overrated. But if you think about it even more, do you really want to worry about your health several years down the line?

Not all doctors look like Meredith Grey, unfortunately.

Men’s Health Miracle Run 2008

Men’s Health Miracle Run 2008

A 10km marathon where you get more attention if you’re coming in last? Sounds good to me!

On August 17, lace up those running shoes and go on over to The Fort on August 17 for Men’s Health Magazine’s first ever Miracle Run! Though I haven’t talked with Neil (my former boss), and the magazine’s current publisher, proceeds of the event will be going to the GMA Kapuso Foundation. I’m guessing that the P200,000 bucks will go to the victims of Typhoon Frank.

If you’re not the hardcore All-Terrain Race type (don’t get me wrong, I love my knees so I don’t think I’ll be doing that race again), this is one run you can definitely be a part of. Just visit the Men’s Health Miracle Run microsite to download the registration form.

Men’s Health All-Terrain Race 2008: A Week After

All Terrain Race 2008 Start

If you think you can go and run in UP every other day for two whole months and be prepared for the Men’s Health All-Terrain Race, you obviously have no idea what you’re getting yourself into (Parang ako! Lol). I ran. I climbed. I *barely* conquered probably the longest run I’ve ever taken in my life.

12km run x (Who knows how many steep hills + Scorching heat of the sun) = An experience I will never ever forget.

Men’s Health All-Terrain Race 2008

Men’s Health All-Terrain Race 2008For the 3rd year in a row, Men’s Health magazine will be holding its annual All-Terrain Race in Timberland Heights, San Mateo, Rizal. In true Men’s Health fashion, the event is a celebration of people who have embraced the magazine’s lifestyle. The event will take place on June 15, Father’s Day, and promises to trump the past two in terms of participation and prestige.

For those who have no idea what the race is about, you’ll be running up sloping hills instead of level paths. You’ll be biking on rough terrain and encountering steep drops as opposed to well paved roads. Do you have what it takes?

I hope I do. For the first time, I will be joining the All-Terrain Race (Haven’t decided though if I’m going to run or bike). If I find the time to bring my bike up there and train, then I would rather do that, but it may be more feasible to run instead. Why do I want to join? More than the Men’s Health Urbanathlon last November, I helped organize the first two All- Terrain Races with the dedicated events team of Summit Media and Team All-Terra of Club 650.

All Terrain Race 2007I was planning to join last year’s race, but had so many logistical duties to attend to at basecamp. So anyone out there who’s up for a little torture adventure, you may want to give this a try. Visit the Men’s Health website for registration details, or visit the Timberland Heighs Club site to see where the race will take place.

Oh, check out the video below from 2006′s All-Terrain Race right after the jump.
