When Editorial Integrity is Thrown Out the Window: The Perfect Example

Freeloader

I said I would never post anything about Brian Gorrell (or the people involved who I don’t even know personally), but now I realize that not only is he fighting to get his money back, he is also causing media outfits to keep a watchful eye on the shady practice of getting something in return for some good PR. It’s okay if the other party gives freely as part of a collective push to boost awareness for whatever they’re promoting — but if the journalist involved BLATANTLY asks for something? Ugh. It’s just THE perfect example of what I was talking about in a previous post. To have it on paper, is just priceless :D

Click on the image above to read the article. Does anyone remember the movie ED TV with Matthew McConaughey? In the last part he ran a contest to expose his producers so the latter would pull the plug on the show. This whole drama feels just like that. This ain’t the movies though.

Like the man said, give him his $70,000 back.

An Initial Review on Summit/GMA NMI’s Spot.ph City Guide

Spot.ph LogoIf there’s one thing about city guides a lot of people can be thankful for, it’s that small entities now have a cost(less) effective way to promote their budding businesses. That hole in the wall restaurant you’ve always wanted to go to is no longer an hour away –
it’s just a click away.

I just wanted to give some comments about Summit’s newly released Spot.ph city guide, which sadly, (in my opinion) fails to live up to the high standards the company is very well known for.

A Better Ending: I am Legend

iamlegend-poster2.jpgI don’t remember when I am Legend came out. All I remember is how much I regretted watching it. All I saw was an explosive display of er, explosives. Anyway, someone from the office showed me an alternate ending. You can also watch it here. Way better methinks.

You didn’t think a movie with such a kickass poster would suck bigtime right? I guess it’s a marketing tactic so people would buy the DVD :P

Has it been 10 years since ’98?

Dboys 98 Picture

I’ve said it time and time again and without bias — if and and when I have a kid, I don’t care where he goes to grade school or college, as long as his high school years are spent in the Ateneo. Without malice (pwera lang kung si Roset – sorry guys, inside joke) it’s where and when almost everything is done for the very first time.

Metrobank is ******* Down

Metrobank is DownSince you are now on this page, I’m guessing you’re already as frustrated and pissed as I am about Metrobank. You can find more rants here and here. Well, everyone looking forward to a Saturday at the mall are just going to have to *ulp* – wait. Why? Because you can’t even troop down to the nearest branch and make an over the counter withdrawal.

Sure, you’re going to have to put off buying those shoes you’ve always wanted for a few more days (we hope), but what about the people who have to pay the bills today?

I guess the question is, how accountable can Metrobank be because of this unfortunate situation?

So, so sad. Even sadder than Charlene Gonzales’ Superwoman bit from 1994…

PBA to transfer to Studio 23?

PBA on Studio 23

Rumors are circulating that the Philippine Basketball Association may soon find a new home in Studio 23. According to my source, the PBA was no longer happy with ABC 5, and that the transfer is 90% sure to push through. The transfer however, may not happen until after the coming conference.

What implications will this have on the country’s premier pay to play league?

Madonna in Manila

Madonna in Manila

I mentioned in a previous post that Madonna would be coming to Manila. Well, those whispers are turning into part of everyday conversation nowadays. Rumors have it that it will happen sometime in mid 2008 at the Fort Open Field (that isn’t too far off). It also helps that she’s part of Sunsilk’s worldwide campaign.

That’s pretty much all I have to say. You can bet that once tickets go on sale, it’ll only be a matter of days before they run out. That goes without saying, it’s time to save your money for Madonna. Madonna in Manila. Wow. The thought alone is hair raising.

Let me a give a few guesstimates for Madonna in Manila ticket prices if it were to be done in Araneta:

  • Patron – P40,000
  • Lower Box – P30,000
  • Upper A – P20,000
  • Upper B – P10,000
  • General Admission – P2,500

Beyonce was at P20,000 before, and if I remember correctly, Jacko was at P10,000? Nothing to laugh about here — demand will be so high that these prices are sure to fetch a lot of takers.

Shady Statistics on the Philippine Online Gaming Market

According to this link, the Philippines will have about 6.3 million online gamers in 2008, in a study that was released by International Data Corporation.

MANILA, Jan. 28 (Xinhuanet) — The number of online gamers in the Philippines will reach 6.3 million by 2008, said a research released by the International Data Corporation (IDC). The increase is driven by the availability of new online gametitles and more broadband connections

Imagine my amusement when I came across an article in today’s Inquirer. Please pay special attention to the numbers that were mentioned.

The networks are taking different routes to gaming glory. ABS-CBN has its wholly owned unit Amped Games. The unit registered 2.5 million active users for 2007 and wants to double that to 5 million in 2008, said Mitch Padua, Amped Games division head.

GMA is catching up by forging an P800-million joint venture called I-Play with listed conglomerate IPVG Corp., which has an existing active player base of 2.5 million.

Having seen these figures, I decided to visit Alexa, and this is what I found.
