Who is Shawn Yao and the Rogue Magazine Mystery

KC-Concepcion-Rogue-Magazine-CoverIf you love browsing magazines, then you’ve probably picked up and looked at KC Concepcion’s Rogue Magazine cover. No doubt about it, the Megastar’s daughter is destined for stardom. She doesn’t just qualify as eye candy, she’s one helluva’ talented woman as well. How can someone be so perfect?

These reasons though, aren’t why you can no longer find a KC Concepcion Rogue Magazine issue on the newsstands (you can check out the pics here).

Anytime a magazine sells out at least 85% of its monthly print run, you can expect good returns on your monthly investment.

WHAT IF, someone just suddenly decides to purchase all available copies? This strategy was actually explored when a famous men’s magazine launched a year or two ago. While this move would have prevented the title from making a big splash in the magazine market (by preventing it from falling into the hands of potential repeat purchasers), it would definitely raise the public’s curiosity. Anyone remember the infamous Diana Zubiri shoot on Edsa? Any red-blooded male would.

I’m not familiar with Rogue’s true circulation, but whispers from publishing circles indicate that a family (with family name Yao) has indeed bought every available Rogue Magazine out there.

Want to find out why?

Shawn Yao

The woman in the picture above is Shawn Yao — model, cosplayer, and photography buff. She’s such a fan of photography that she agreed to bare the twins for the camera (why am I not surprised that Quark Henares was somehow involved in this). Apparently, her family wasn’t too happy about it, so they ended up buying every single copy out there. That’s P185 x God knows how many that are out there.

Word of advice for all male mags out there who want to sell out all their issues. Just convince a member of a rich family to bare it all for the viewing public. :)

You were the first one to blog about it. I seem to be the second, here.

This is crazy! Got me a copy and as with all Rogue issues, I enjoyed this one. Absolutely awesome photos of Shawn and KC! To be fair, all the shots are truly in good taste. Just what finely crafted photos should be. As expected from Juan Caguicla (Shawn’s) and Mark Nicdao (KC’s).

So what’s the fuss from the quirky rich families? Come on, it’s the 21st century! I assume Shawn’s an adult, can decide for herself and flaunt her beaut-bod anyway she wants. And add a feather to her cap too!

Congrats to Rogue – this is now a collector’s issue. Any reprints in the offing?

wow 85% is actually a fantastic number to behold. usually, a conservative 40% is given as sales, excluding the ones you give out as complimentary copies to agencies and coffee shops.

At Summit, 85% is really a normal/achievable target, with some titles such as FHM and Yes! even reaching 90% on some of the good months :)

I believe that by posting this article is very unjust. Based on the 8th commandment, thou shall not bare false witness, it is improper for a person to tell something to the people who does not have the right to know. By doing such an act . You’re degrading her dignity in exposing this nudity, how could you such a thing? Don’t abuse the power of media.

Dear anonymous poster,

1. One look at the images in the magazine and you will see that the pictures were obviously shot with her consent.

2. “It is improper for a person to tell something to the people who does not have the right to know”

The magazines are being sold in the newsstands.

If you’re going to be mad at someone, be mad at the people who convinced her to come out like that. If the shots were stolen, then that I think is abuse of the power of media.

For the record, I did not find the shoot offensive at all.

Although my comment is late, I just got to say:

Dear anonymous poster,

Grow a brain before quoting the Bible to prove a point. No, I’m not offended since you quoted the Bible. I’m offended you posted a comment whilst your brain was non-existent in your noggin’.

Kudos to the one who posted. But shame on Shawn (or Kimberly to be exact). You’re a shame to the Chinese community. There’s a line between liberalism and sheer disgusting immorality. Thank God you’re not in my family.

Alvs, how long do you think this mag will last? It’s certianly alot better than what is was as Manifesto fom C! Magazine!

Hi,

From what I know of the people behind C/Manifesto/Rogue (same people behind all of these mags), they are also into exporting the magazine to different countries. I just don’t know if they’re doing that with Rogue.

In any case, I love Rogue. My initial impression about the mag was that they’ll have a hard time maintaining the quality issue in issue out. I guess I’ve been proven wrong. Though the mag is a bit niche, I think it can pass for a monthly coffee table magazine (if there is such a thing).

The creators of Rogue used to be with C! magazine until Kevin Kimjoco fired them– wrong move because they went on to get the mag funded by the Zobels and their work speaks for itself. Rogue is a class act! Could you please send me your email address as well? Thanks Alvin!

What does Alvin do?

Alvin JimenezIf he isn't watching, playing, or reading about basketball, he's probably on his PS3 playing it, using a created character patterned after himself.

Everything else you find on these pages is what he does in between.
