Every year since I can remember, I’ve always celebrated my birthday. One year it would be a party with 9-10 cases of beer, the next year another party with 11-12 cases of beer (It’s easy to guess the progression). It’s always great to celebrate the day you were born with the people who matter to you the most.

It’s an open secret that I used to handle Men’s Health Magazine when I was still in Summit Media. There are no words that can describe how fulfilling it is to encourage people to live a healthier lifestyle. After all, we live in the land of sisig and lechon. Without having to look through the magazine, all you have to do is survey what is served in Dencio’s or Gerry’s Grill to guess that heart disease is the main cause of fatalities among Filipino men. It really is.

Sure it’s an uphill climb, but when you encounter people like this and this, while on the job, it really inspires you to keep on pushing.

In more than two years I was there, we came up with an event called the Men’s Health All-Terrain Race. It was dubbed as a race “that is unlike anything you’ve ever tried before”. Without going into details, here is a video that I made this past May to encourage people to join. Needless to say, there was just no chance for me to join because of the logistical preparations that had to be done.

When I heard that my former boss had succeeded in pitching the Men’s Health Urbanathlon to some local sponsors, I knew this was my chance to finally join. When it finally “hits the streets” of Fort Bonifacio, expect me to be there. Click on the following image to see race details.

Definitely no beer until after the 18th :P
